The alpha male will rise to the top in any community, whether human or animal. In the animal kingdom alpha males are easy to spot, as the rest of the group wait while he eats first or takes the initiative at mating season. In some species only the alpha male is allowed the privilege of mating and any other male attempting to break this rule will be outcast or even killed.
Pack animals will defer to the alpha male in all circumstances and he will lead the pack for life, or until another alpha comes along to challenge. For animals therefore, the way to become alpha is to challenge and fight, to prove themselves, whereas how to be an alpha male for a human is a very different story. Alpha males generally have grown up from childhood as confident, but this confidence can be learned later in life and characters changed through determination and perseverance.
